At the end of February 2023, I took part in a two-night sanctuary pilgrimage, 3 days walk from Fishguard, (stage 6 of the Wexford-Pembrokeshire Pilgrim Way). A small group of us walked through Llanwnda, Pwll Deri, Melin Tregwynt, Pwll Strodur, Carreg Sampson, Trefin, Llanrhian. We then join the community of St Davids in the pilgrimage walk from St Non's Well into the city of St Davids for St David's Day, 1st March.
When we arrive in St Davids we were truly blessed to witness for the first time in many years the Illuminating of the St Davids Day Stone. At noon exactly the clouds parted the sun shone through to illuminate a stone inscribed with the “Pilgrims Prayer” written by James Nicholas the former Archdruid of Wales: translated into English:
"O God, You gave to St Davids a light
which to us is a mystery;
in Your turn,
O grant her a dream for Tomorrow."
We then followed the procession down through the square to the Cathedral. It was a very beautiful and magical experience.
